Motion

Inspired by a fellow photographer I tried my hand at a different type of motion study. Check out this link to "ThePencilofNature" to view some different videos that study one minute of a scene. The movements are sometimes subtle and sometimes dramatic. I tried some night stills that required long exposures on a windy night. I like the results of the top one. Familiar and mysterious at the same time.

  1. Shared by a viewer: I think I liked the second motion photo better because of the contrast between the sharp background and the blurred object. Also because the background is interesting in itself. It looks to me like peeling paint and Rorschachs to a map of Europe with a ridiculously large British Isles on the left. Of course that might have something to do with my current read "Empires of the Silk Road" which has me constantly trying to visualize the Eurasian continent full of red headed Scythians and almond eyed Mongols rushing about endlessly conquering each other. The first image is fine and certainly is mysterious - it just doesn't prime my visual imagination which may be a virtue now that I think about it.

My response: Now that I look at the second one he could be right. Interesting, I didn't notice that before.
