An Australian Shepard I believe. A breed developed by Americans who came to Australia to farm, bread this herding dog, and returned to the US eventually taking their dogs with them . A similar dog was later bread in Australia for the same purpose - herding cattle - the Queensland Blue Heeler. They are short haired but you can see some of the same 'blue' color on Maui's back - so the two breeds have genes in common too.
