Animal shots at night are difficult. Flash photography is so common, the bright eyes, look more natural then the ones I photoshopped back to black. What will it take to make it look natural?

My note: No third party features are added. If there is a cookie it belongs to Google and not to me.
Animals don't actually have black eyes; there is light there, just not as much as in the flash reflection.
