Arizona sunsets are so beautiful. Adding flying saucers in Photoshop is so easy. Enjoy the day.

I love light. The camera can isolate the amazing things light can do. I combined the two pictures so you could see where the light design came from.
What do you do in the Summer time? Is a line from a song I know. I captured this bit of fun on a day when people were all over the park. I think the camera is great for isolating a moment in time and space.
Usually I prefer photography but occasionally I get to express myself in other art forms. This is a wall in the staff lounge at ASU Art department. I presented the design idea and it was excepted. No money but it was awesome to do.
This delicate little bloom is about the size of my thumb nail. It sits on top of a tall spindly stem hoping to get it high enough that a desert breeze can spread its pollen. I am fascinated how each of God's creations are so beautifully suited to its own environment. A single bloom is cute but thousands blooming in the desert cast yellow cape over the brown desert.
Stunning.
I caught pictures of this beautiful web by a wood pile at ASU I was so impresses with how elegant and organized it looks. Incredibly beautiful.
This picture reminds me of a poster I had on my door when I was in high school. You can mourn because Roses have thorns or rejoice because Thorn bushes have Roses.
Studying different cultures around the world led to an assignment at the Heard Museum. http://www.heard.org/ If you get a chance to go Saturdays are free during July. The museum has changed a lot since I was there as a kid. No more shrunken heads but an amazing array of artifacts. Several of the exhibits are geared towards kids trying things hands on. I also found an amazing set of pictures by Barry Goldwater. I added his quote because he shares some of how I feel when taking photographs. I had no idea that there was this side to Barry Goldwater. I am impressed.
I caught this little fellow doing his thing with the flowers earlier this spring. The bee seemed to be oblivious as to what I was up to and just kept doing his thing. I think a lot of people are that way. They just stay busy doing their thing and don't pay much attention as to what anybody else is doing.
Gecko guest are welcomed addition to the household. They eat bugs. They also try to blend in with the rug design. Go Gecko!!
The only way Arizona stays green is lots of sprinklers.
Renaissance Fair brings out the henna artist. I was impressed by the pride this mom took in her pregnancy.
This is one Arizona home that nobody wants at their house. The perfectly shaped geometric cells house one of the nastier flying insects, the paper wasp. A flat surface out of the sun is all this creature needs to build a home that neighbors don't want.
This amazing bush is growing in a crack in the granite. A tiny crack was sufficient for the seed to start growing a root. As more rain comes the root finds space between slabs of rock. Slow growing but over time the roots split the rock to find a place for the bush to grow.
When taking pictures of flowers many photographers look for the perfect flower with out flaws. I enjoy the beauty of each flower and the slightly frayed edges remind me that I can be slightly frayed but that doesn't change the overall beauty.

I was so impressed by this intrepid survivor that I came back to take pictures. I love the fact that this plant is growing in what many would say is the most hostile environment. This is next to a busy 6 lane road. The cliche 'Bloom where you're planted' took on new meaning while taking this picture with traffic whizzing by 2 feet away.

AZ heat inspires seeking out cool alternatives. Water parks are a fabulous place with water shooting up from the ground. In the dessert a rain dance is almost useless but a water dance at the park is a real possibility.
I wonder if the bike has to have a urban fishing license.
Today I am struggling with feeling like I am looking at the world with a distorted view. I am looking at a problem so big that I can't seem to look past it and I can't see so well because of it.
A camera takes slices of time. The human eye will never see this image of a water fountain at night. I opened the camera lens and let the camera collect light for a few seconds from a dark fountain. The camera then records this gathering of light for me to enjoy later.
I have noticed over the years that when my life seems the darkest is when God's presence can become more evident if I can just find a break in the clouds. The Lord is always there just as the sun is always there but when days are dark I have to look harder for Him. Some how with that effort I appreciate His presence more.
Look for the cracks in dark clouds and there you will find Him.
