Patterns show up in interesting places if you are looking for them. This board coming through the sander show the patterns of the wood grinding away the high points. Each time through the pattern would change.
Ever noticed how an out of focus shot becomes important not because it is a great picture but because it has captured a memory? This is the school bell by the door from my third grade class room. The building was replaced this summer and that bell will never ring again. Thank goodness. It sounded absolutely obnoxious.
Picture of loneliness or A family outing? One of the fascinating things about pictures is that people think they tell the whole story. You can see by these two pictures that pictures can be misleading or downright untruthful. The pictures were taking within seconds of each other. Just depends on what you put in and what you leave out.
My sister suggested hiding the shoreline add a little fog and I could have a 'real' picture of Nessie right in my 'own' back yard. I must admit ducks dunking can look rather odd at a distance. What do you think?
I am driving down the street and came around the corner to see this car. I could hardly believe my eyes. My sister told me it is a New Orleans Maris Gras car. I didn't know there were such things. Stopped to take pictures.
Selecting what to shoot and cropping out all the foreground I was able to get a concert of blues. Atmospheric color from the air create the illusion that the distant mountains are all blue.
There is a type of duck that enjoys swimming under the water. Every so often it sticks his head out and swims like a submarine with the periscope up. It cracks me up every time.
Early this morning I watched our local neighborhood gray heron stalking the fish in the park 'lake.' I was amazed at how gracefully he stalked his fishy prey.
One morning I was out shopping very early and caught a spectacular sunrise over the grocery store. That night the sunset was no less spectacular behind the power lines. Urbanization doesn't stop beauty from shining through.
Light and shadows are the essence of photography. One description of photography is painting with light. The lights and shadows on the rocks and waves caught my eye. I shot it from several different settings and angles hoping to capture the feeling of light playing on the water and rocks.
Change your point of view and the picture changes. The top picture is a light with a crow on it and the second is a crow sitting on a light. Same subject 2 very different views. Some times when people talk about the same event I wonder if we are talking about the same thing since our point of views can be so different.
I am working on a book on integration and survival. This will be my last page. No matter how battered or scarred you may be, thriving is always a choice.
The first picture is taken with a flash and looks similar to what I could see. The second picture is how the camera 'sees' the same light. I enjoy allowing the camera to reveal what it 'sees.' I don't know what the picture will look like until after I take the picture.
I am constantly amazed at the things you can do with a camera. By choosing where I stood I could make it appear that the moon is sitting on the mountain.
Out the window, along the road side, the camera shows life at a 55 MPH blur. Around the corner, coming down a hill I took this picture in southern Utah. I looked at the other pictures I took of this view and I liked this one the best. A change in the point of view can change the whole picture.
This little guy scampered across my path then sat up on this rock like he was asking, "What you doin'? Got any food for me? Huh? Huh?" No food - so he scampered off looking for cool shade.
One of the cool things I learned in photography was how to colorize photographs. This is a picture of a great Aunt that lived in the early 1900's. I was able to scan in the photo and use photoshop to make it look like something that was shot yesterday.
A photography degree requires drawing as one of the core classes. I took drawing first since I considered myself stick figure challenged. I learned to draw because I loved photography.
